I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! Mine was pretty good. Good food and nice visits with family. For those of you willing to fight the crowds this morning, I hope you found lots of great bargains!

I want to apologize for my recent disappearance. I somehow got my days mixed up and forgot which week was mine. It’s taken me a while to get back on track, but hopefully I have it figured out and I can get it right. I’ll go ahead and admit that I’m not the most organized person in the world. It’s one of my big downfalls. Not only does it mess me up with my blog days, but it really hurts me with my writing as well. One of these days, I’m going to find a good system to keep me on track, but until then, I’ll keep plugging along and hoping that I’ll get it right soon.

My computer is a giant mess, with sometimes multiple files, that I really need to get organized. I’ve had authors before tell me that they save a copy of their originals and one for each edit, that way they can always go back to the way it was before if they need to. Well, that sounded like a good idea to me. I know I make plenty of mistakes, and if I need to revert to an earlier version, I really should have a copy available.  So, in trying to save myself some work, I’ve somehow got my version mixed up with each other and now I’m not sure which is the newest version. Yikes! Talk about some trouble sorting that mess out. Well, I’ve finally figured out that I need to create a new folder for each step. That will help me keep everything sorted, I hope. The only thing left for me to do is go through all my old files to try to clean up the mess I’ve made in there. I’m not looking forward to that task.

So, I’m wondering . How do you organize your writing? Any tips to share with an unorganized sap? I’d love to hear how you do it. Maybe it will help me get my own writing in better order. It sure could use it! And, now, I’ll quit telling on myself before everyone thinks I’m a complete idiot. Have a great weekend and thanks for reading my ramblings.

    Lynne,
All I do for versions is ignore the actual version number and just use a date with the name:

    Project20091130

Change the date everytime you save and you’ve got it. No file organization and you can also look at the Details to see the last save date if can’t figure out which version is which. Just grab the most recent and see if it looks right.

Good luck with organizing. A new year coming up – this could be your year to organize.

    April

Oh, wow! What a great idea! Why didn’t I think of that, lol. Thanks, April!!! I definitely need to make it my year for that!
