Reject this!

First off, I want to thank Haven and the lovely gals at Romantic Inks for inviting me to play along. For those of you who don’t know me, My name is Arianna Skye. I write many different genres, ranging from historical to paranormal and some erotic romance. You may recognize my alter ego, Sindee Sexton. I Googled my original pen  name and, along with my own site, some rather interesting sites came up. I got some sense and decided to change my pseudonym.

As a lot of you are aware, I’m pretty popular on the contest circuit. My erotic romance, Wings of Desire, has finaled in over a dozen contests. I’ve even gotten some requests from some of it’s wins. But it seems lately even with these wins, nothing good comes from them. Even the requests from the wins come back with a big fat NO! And to make matters worse, it’s not just any rejection. It’s that dreaded form rejection. This rejection cuts worse than the personal ones.  The form rejection leaves questions unanswered. Did they hate it that much? Is there nothing I can fix? What didn’t work? Without answers, I’m left baffled and confused. That poor manuscript has been written, re-worked, edited and revised within an inch of my life. Uh, did I say my life? I meant its life, of course!

But I know I’ll just end up with a case of premature baldness (and it does run in my family) if I keep fretting over it. The best advice I was given was to keep writing, despite the rejections. Obviously, I’ve got talent (Hee hee. Sorry Rebecca, I couldn’t resist.) somewhere. The bevy of finals must mean something.  I just need to stay the course and keep plugging away and one day it’ll be the other R word– A request! Then of course that request will turn into a sale.

So despite the rejection, I’m remaining optimistic. One of these days good things will come.

Thanks for letting me ramble!
Arianna

Ramble on… and make sure you include more gossip. I’m dying to Google Sindee Sexton. I somehow don’t think work would appreciate me looking up those sites though hehehe…

Good first post!!!! Looking forward to more.

Oh, it just so happens that two porn stars, one with the first name of Sindee and the other with the last name of Sexton, “acted” in a few movies together. LOL

From what I hear. You not only need “talent” which we know you have, you also need luck. The luck of just the right editor reading your work at just the right time. How does the saying go? “I’d rather be lucky than good.” In the writing world you have to be both-lucky and good. And this is nothing any of us can control. So the way I look at it is to have all your manuscripts ready to go, so when you do get that editor who loves your writing style, you can say, “oh and by the way, I’ve got a couple other manuscripts here that I think you’ll love.” So when you first get published it won’t just be with just one novel, but several. Oh and on a side note, when I was researching my pen name, I really liked Rebecca Scott. Well guess what? There is a porn star with that name, so alas, I decided against it. LOL

When I google Sindee Sexton, the whole first page is all you.

I was wrong. It’s the first two pages, and most of the third.

Oh! Maybe I’m more popular than porn stars now :)

Would now be the time to mention that RI’s original name was Romantically Inclined? Or that when we went to buy the domain we found out it was a porn site. Umm, yeah, Romantic Inks was born soon after.

Hi Arianna! Came a day late, but I’m here. :D I think many writers don’t sell their first manuscript, right? At least not first. And you know you have talent. WOD might not have a place now, but the market is always changing, and it’ll hit the right editor or agent who will just love it!

Hey, Arianna! I’m so late to the party as usual. I’m usually a lurker here, but on Friday I was overwhelmed with essay writing.

Anyway, just keep writing, keep putting it out there and you’ll land that contract.

Hi, Arianna! Sorry I was so slow about getting here. I agree with what everyone else has already said. You’ve got the talent. Now it’s just a matter of getting that ms into the right hands at the right time, and that will happen…when the time is right. LOL
