Review: Cindy Gerard’s Show No Mercy
Show No Mercy is the first in Cindy Gerard’s newest Black Ops Series. I read it in one sitting and didn’t even put it down when I cooked dinner.
Cindy did not disappoint me even a little bit. I loved this book completely from beginning to end.
It was the hero and heroine. Gabe and Jenna. How sweet and fun they were. I totally fell for Gabe. I got him right off the bat. I felt for him. I could understand his pain before I even knew the full extent of his pain. I lost count how many times I wished I could simply reach in and put his head on my chest and tell that it’d be all right..
And then Jenna walks on the page and got her, too. Which is odd because I rarely read for the women, but merely tolerate them. Most of the time the women are doing things I would never do or say. But, oh, no. Not Jenna. We got along. I can’t help but want to ask Cindy if she’s been tailing me, that’s how much Jenna and me were having the same sort of thoughts. It was her drive through life come-hell-or-high-water attitude that just clicked with me.
I connected so much to these two that when he was reluctant, I could understand why. I could see why Gabe just wanted to be left alone, and a part of me wanted him left alone so he could lick his wounds in private. But at the very same time, I was right with Jenna, feeling her frustration and wanting to reach in the book and shake some sense into poor, tortured Gabe and make him see that what he needed was Jenna!
A lot of the time when I read a story, I feel like the conflict pulling the hero and heroine apart is author contrived, but not this time. I wasn’t scanning through the end, wading through a lot of crap until one of the two finally mustarded up the coconuts to talk things out like they should have done from the beginning. These two talked it out and still had troubles.
And you know what else? I read the villain’s POV. I never read the villain’s POV. I like to be in the know as much as the hero and heroine are. And I’ve never been one to find being scared and freaked out as a form of entertainment, but this villain I read. His parts didn’t overpower the story with creepiness like I often see in a villain POV. Yeah, sure, he was a bad, bad man, but I’m not going to be laying in bed tonight getting the hibbie-jibbies over every little squeak my house makes.
The plot was wonderfully woven together. You gave just enough information without overloading me or leaving me with questions. I’m not going to go into what the plot is, as I know I’ll soon be listing out every thing that happened, and trust me, Cindy does a much better job at telling this story then I ever could. Here’s the blurb:
Hides the deadliest threats . . .
Bad guys, bombs, and bullets are Gabriel Jones’s way of life. But he’ll never forget the brash redhead he rescued not so long ago . . . or the passionate kiss they shared before he sent her packing.
And exposes the deepest desires. . . .
Now, forced together by a bombing at the National Congress, Jenna and Gabe confront the urgent longings that simmer between them. But this surprise meeting is no coincidence. A ruthless enemy stalks them with deadly precision. The question is . . . if they make it out alive, will Gabe turn his back on Jenna . . . again?
I’m off to pre-order the other 2 books in the Black Ops Series. In the mean time, I intend to spend some time with Cindy’s Bodyguard books. Be sure to stop back in THIS COMING THURSDAY! I tracked Cindy down for questions and she graciously answered them all!
