Countdown
I actually have two countdowns at the moment. One is for the release of my print book (Small yay). The information can be found on my site. The second thing I’m counting down to is just as big in its own way
THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh man! Is anyone else ready for school to start? I am so ready for the boy to go back to school. I have books to write, three to edit and he doesn’t like to play outside. Gah!! It’s hot outside. Piffle! We live in Texas. Heat is the only word in this state that is can’t be argued. Unless it’s in what degree of HOT we’re talking. Furnace hot? Like Hell hot? It’s just the humidity? Yeah, we have thermometers for all of them. LOL
He starts on the 25th, a hair over two weeks from now. Can I hear a Hallelujah? I love my son. Don’t get me wrong. We play together and I take him places and do the general mommy stuff, but…. And let me tell you, if you work from home and have kids, you know this is a big but, it’s near impossible to really get a good work groove going.
Here’s just a few excuses for walking into my office:
“I just wanted to give you a hug.” — How do you say no that?
“Can I have a snack?” — Well, yeah, I have to feed him. Can’t avoid that part.
“Can I play my Nintendo?” — He knows he has to ask first. He’s six.
Of course, they’re all legitimate. He calls from the living room to tell me something rather then walk in, so he has to repeat it a few times and then come and tell me. He learned this swift from of communication from his father, except I’m the one who has to walk out to hear. He walks in to look at my bookshelf, to study the calendar, or to stare over my shoulder, which makes hot or kissy scenes hard to write! That’s not even all the reasons I’m sure he’s found! LOL He has a few friends. A boy across the street but he recently started morning classes to prep him for school. Another whose mother doesn’t answer her phone and doesn’t call back — usually. So he’s home a lot.
The thing is, it’s not like it was when I was a kid growing up in the country, more then a quarter mile between me and my best friend that was camouflaged as a corn field most years. We’re in 2008 (checks calendar LOL) and living in a subdivision of a small-ish town. People speed on our road. People run stop signs. (This pisses me off to no end.) The closest park still requires a drive to get to it, the same for the community pool, which also requires money. Loose cash I rarely have. I don’t carry the real thing.
I do know he’s excited to go. He loves reading and wants to see his friends again, which is great. I’m counting it all down…..
So with all of that, three months of confinement loving vacation with my son is about all I can take.

I completely understand, Diane. I’m counting down too. 2 years and 2 more weeks to go!
August 8th, 2008 at 9:47 amSorry, Diana, my mind said ‘a’ but me fingers touched ‘e’!
August 8th, 2008 at 9:48 amNo worries.
Two years? So yours hasn’t started yet?
August 8th, 2008 at 11:09 amNo. mine hasn’t started yet. He’s 16 months. and a handful. Just an hour ago he managed to pop off two of my keys off my keyboard (enter and shift no less, couldn’t have been one of those ‘f’ keys I never use). And I can’t find the parts to get them back on!
August 8th, 2008 at 1:39 pmOh dear! I hope you found the bits.
