Tasty Tuesday ~ DIY “Lean” Cuisines
First, you should know I’m a gadget junkie. Doesn’t matter what kind of gadgets, if they do cool stuff or make your life easier, I love ‘em. That being said, my kitchen gadget collection is my pride and joy–much to my husband’s frustration sometimes. He thinks I have too many kitchen gadgets…I say, you can never have too many!
My newest kitchen helper is the Reynolds Handi-Vac. I love, love, LOVE this little gem.   The “starter” kit even came with batteries. And I recommend it for preparing this week’s Tasty Tuesday recipe.
So, on to the food!
Do-It-Yourself Healthy Lunch/Dinner Packs. All the prep is done ahead of time so you don’t have to think, just grab.
1 small bag of baby red potatoes
1 bag frozen veggies (your choice)
1 pkg thin sliced center cut pork chops
Garlic Powder
Salt
Black Pepper
Wash and place baby red potatoes In a nifty Ziploc steam bag. Use the directions on the steam bag for potatoes. I believe 14 minutes will cook a steam bag filled to the “Full” line. While these are cooking, season the pork chops to taste and bake or grill (I like to use my Foreman grill for these).
Let the potatoes and pork chops cool. Then you’re ready to load up your Reynolds vacuum bags. Place two baby potatoes in each 1 QT vacuum bag, followed by a 1/4 – 1/2 cup frozen veggies and finally, one of your pork chops.
Seal and use the Reynolds Handi-Vac to suck out all the air. Voi La! A healthy pre-made meal you can freeze and grab for lunches at work or dinners on the run. For a twist, I like to vacuum seal only the potatoes and veggies and take a marinated raw piece of meat to cook up at work on the Foreman grill I have there. Quick and tasty every time.
Enjoy!

I have looked, wanting to buy one of those Handi-Vac, but I didn’t know how well they really work (because you know, everything is fantastic and excellent on TV). I love vacuum sealing things, but my big one from way back when (the FoodVac?) doesn’t work so well. Yeah, I’ve still got it. Don’t know why. Will be doing some looking into this little gadget.
This reciepe sounds great and reminds me of the pork chops my husband was whinning about not having for dinner yet.
Keri,
I too, was skeptical. But for $10, I figured I could try it out. It’s perfect for small applications. I haven’t tried it for anything larger than the 1 quart bags. But I’m totally satisfied with what I have used it for.

Sounds yummy!
I have one of those vacs. It frustrates me more often then not though. I think the box of bags that I bought weren’t prepped right.
I’ve had problems with almost all of them, but not the ones that came with the vac, so I’m guessing it’s me or the bags. I’d like to live in disillusion land a little longer.
Otherwise it wowed me with the idea and the actual use of it.
