Things that go bump in the night

things-that-go-bump-in-the-night

Now normally I would say this is me, walking in the dark around the house, trying to track down something to snack on so I can get back to work on the various things I do online. And tonight, like most, I’m up way past any normal persons bedtime. I just happen to be settling in to write this blog when something outside caught my attention.

My heart began to race, drumming loudly in my chest. My body tensed. I was frozen in fear as I strained my ears to listen for what was causing the strange noise outside my window.

It has stopped now, but my heart is still pumping quickly and my body is slowly relaxing.

Before you begin to panic, I think it was just an owl or some type of strange bird that happened to sound a bit like a monkey. Are there monkeys in Louisiana? No, I didn’t think so either.

Anyhow, back to were I was at, I was just sitting down to write a blog when I heard the noise. That’s when it hit me! Bam! A topic on things that make your heart do a quick step and doesn’t involve a shirtless hero *grin*.

The story I’m currently working on is a historical / paranormal, involving a very sexy vampire *Yum*. In this story I have several scenes that, I hope, raise the hairs on the back of the reader’s neck and has them snuggling a bit closer to their blanket. Granted, I wouldn’t call what I’m writing a thriller. Nope! If anything it’s a gothic-style historical paranormal. But I have a secret, there were even parts of Wuthering Heights that had me glancing about the room, ensuring that nothing devious was lurking in the shadows.

Ever experienced paralyzing fear? Seen a show that had you checking the locks on all the doors and windows? Or read a book so captivating that you kept the lights on, “just in case”? Possibly spooked yourself while writing a tense scene? Share with us!

Now would be a great time to mention Kathryn Smith’s ARC Before I Wake, first book in the Nightmare Chronicles. RI’s Auction is just about to come to a close (for majority of the items). Please hop over a page and take a look at the items we have. And just a reminder that you have until midnight tonight (est) to place your bids. You know the dark hour, when everyone is asleep and suddenly you hear a board squeak. The same one that only sounds that way if someone is stepping on it. You go to investigate only to find… your 25 pound cat.

Darn you, Haven. You upped my bid for Kathryn Smith’s book. I used to live on a lake. The noise at night was quite incredible—the mournful loons, wild splashing, branches cracking, etc. Then there were the coyotes howling and yipping. I had to move back into town to get a good night’s sleep!

Sorry Maggie, but I really really like Kate’s books :D. Please forgive me…

Oh, you know what’s really bad. Because I sleep irregular hours, I’m often asleep and alone in the house. Take note stalkers!

Well, the mother-in-law is the manager of a local store and lets just say when she took the job she wasn’t exactly liked. She stopped the clerks from stealing and basically cleaned up the place. Anyhow, she started getting death threats at work. She called the cops, they made a report, nothing happened. Her truck was vandalized, she called the cops, filed a report, nothing happened.

This is where it gets scary.

After awhile, they got a hold of our private number and would call and hang up. But things got worse when I woke up in the middle of the night (which was very strange but I was sick) and saw headlights in our drive way. At first I thought nothing of it, but after I woke up, I noted they were way to close to the house to just be turning around.

I got up, glanced out of the crack in our curtains and saw they were just sitting there.

    *PANIC*

I start shoving the hubby to wake-up and he called the cops. When hubby flipped on the light, they left and the cops filed a report and nothing happened.

We’ve since had a few random odd-balls wander into our yard but I don’t exactly think it was “them”.

Sometimes I wish we could move to a very solitary place with a huge wall that pointy spikes at the top lol. But then, if something were to happen, I’d have no one next door to run to. Oy!

If it’s late and I’m in a deserted subway station, the only thing I hear are the rats and I start thinking that they’re preparing to jump up on the platform to get to me.

Ewww!!! Take an umbrella with you everywhere…at least then you have something to beat them off with. That is to say, if they do gang up on you hehe.

In my ex boyfriend’s parents house there was these dark stairs. And I swear, every time I was walking up that dark staircase I felt as if someone was walking behind me, even if there was no one there.

Also, I once woke up from a dream in the middle of the night to see an old lady standing before me in the room staring at me. Obviously this was just some remnant of the dream and I wasn’t actually awake yet. But it sure did scare me! Took me a while to fall asleep again for sure!

Also woke up once because there was an odd sound in my bedroom. I thought burglars or something. Then saw some dark shadow flitting across the room. Finally gained the courage to lit a lamp (after like 20 minutes under the covers fearfully wondering what the hell the noise was). Turns out it was a bat! It had somehow gotten inside and was flying from one side of the room to the other!

Cause in the dictionary under ‘coward’ there is a picture of me….I’m not commenting on this. Especially at 2:30 in the morning!

However, may I be the first to say WOW–looks like your first round of auction went really, really well! congratulations!!
