Combining Setting with Action

When I flew to Seattle last week for the Maven retreat, I intended to spend the 7 or 8 travel hours working on a particular scene in my WIP. I did not. Instead, I spent one leg of the trip (I had a layover in Minneapolis/St. Paul) reading craft articles I’d saved on my laptop. [...]

The Changing of the Tide

In March ’08, my next book, DOUBLE FANTASY, will be released.  I will celebrate it as my twentieth published novel, and my fifteenth published “erotic” romance.  But it will also be my last “erotic.”  I have written the most fun, fast-paced, and sexy stories out on the market today, have been critically acclaimed, and won [...]

Animals are a great tool for the author to let you into the minds of the main character. What do I mean? Have you ever read your heroine going into her room and talking to her cat/dog? It’s a perfect way to let you know what the heroine is going through without the long “inside thought”. It creates a type of bridge for the character.

ONLINE PROMOTION – A VALUABLE TOOL FOR WRITERS OR A VORTEX OF DOOM?

Let’s face it.  Authors in this day and age have a job description that is very different from Jane Austen’s or William Faulkner’s.  In some ways, those guys had it easy.  All they had to do was write the book, and the job of promoting it lay with the publisher.  Sure, we think it’s easier [...]
