Feeling Good

Reading the posts that have been up so far this week it’s almost enough to give a girl stage-fright! Everyone has posted really interesting and thoughtful posts, and I think we’ve all been given a few things to consider.

Personally I’m afraid I have nothing of such importance to give you, but wanted to instead talk about feeling good. This might sound like such a small thing, but it’s actually quite important. The last few days I’ve been in bed with a fever, and this gave me the opportunity to think about what I like to do to cheer myself up and feeling better.

The two obvious options are reading a good book and watching a feel-good movie. Since my attention span wasn’t the best in this case I went for the movies, but normally a good romance book can really lift the spirits.

I saw, and can very much recommend, both Happy Feet (sweet, animated penguins with lots of singing, and guess what - they have a message for us!) and The Holiday (romantic, funny movie… and hey… it stars eye-candy Jude Law).

What do you do to feel good? Do you have any particular books that you prefer to read, or do you have any movie recommendations? (Or do you do something else entirely… like… cover yourself in melted chocolate?)

I want to see The Holiday! Is that out on DVD already? Geez. It’s like January.

I hope you feel better soon! I am personally going to take you up on your idea to smother myself in chocolate. Salad. No, not a chocolate salad. Just a salad. Sigh.

Nope, not smothering, just eatting chocolate. :) When I’m in a not so good mood, I’ll go to some of the books I know I loved. . . my favorite Julia Quinn’s for example are just a few. :)

I like to watch Forrest Gump when I need a good cry. Sense and Sensibility is great for lifting my spirits. Grosse Point Blank because it’s so darkly funny. As for books…I dunno. I guess I could go back and read my old books and get a laugh!

Well, I grew up in a singing family, have been told I have a beautiful voice, as my hubby and sons can attest to the fact that I sing…A LOT!!! I love broadway musicals, Evanescence, Lorenna Mckennitt, Enya, to name a few.

When not singing, I also love to act. In fact, I plan to audition for The Music Man at my town’s community theatre in April. Break a leg! As the saying goes. ;) I’m trying for the part of Mrs. Parroo, Marian the librarian’s mother. The part requires you to speak in the Irish accent, so wish me luck that I get the part. I can do accents really well, and I’ve played the part before about 6 years ago.

I too love to read a good book, or watch a feel good, preferably romantic movie. Eye candy is a requirement, I thought we all knew that? lol.

My other passion is my cross-stitching. I’ve been doing this since I was 16 years old. My oldest sister introduced me to it, and I’ve been “X-ing” ever since. i recently finished one project, and have already started the next. I’m having my finished project professionally framed, so I can fill an empty space on my wall.

My hubby teases me and says “When we’re old and grey, there won’t be any paint visible on the walls, just your cross-stitching.” But in all truth, it is a relatively inexpensive hobby, and I love it, THAT’S the most important thing…do something you love!

I love this post.. I’ve been feeling blah lately… and feeling good sounds really great right now.

I hope you feel better soon, too,

Michelle, I was never good at cross-stitching, but I LOVE love love looking @ it. I have no idea how people do it.

    What is The Holiday about?

The Holiday, is that the one with Queen Lateffa in it? If so it’s a really good movie.

Music often works for changing my moods. I love this fact when I’m trying to get into a dark mood for writing or need a pick-me-up for every day life.

Something else that always makes me feel better is a haircut. Now I know getting your hair cut while running fever isn’t exactly what you’re in the mood for lol. But if life has you down a bit, go for a trim and you’ll feel better.

    Emily, good post!

I surround myself with those who love me and/or I watch a good movie (Emma and P&P are my faves).

The Holiday is the movie with Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law and Jack Black.

    Michelle - I want to see a picture of that X-stitch. ;)

    Keira - LMAO! :D

Keira, I kid you not, your list is almost identical to mine. Although, I haven’t seen nor do I know what Koyla is about P&P is a must when I need to feel better. We’re lucky to live within a short driving distance to different, but beautiful beaches so that’s something I like to do as well. Target, I laughed so hard when I read that, because - I too - go to one of my THREE - see how lucky I am??? - local Targets to walk the aisles. I especially love the greeting card section, I love reading those Shoebox cards.

I’d like to wish you all a Happy Friday and an even better weekend!

Emily *hugs* I hope you feel better soon
    * Chocolate
    * I talk to one of my best friends and complain to her about how bad I’m feeling (venting helps release some of the frustrations, we do this for each other)
    * I take a long hot bath with either soothing music and candles or a good pb book to read (it all depends on my mood)
    * I get into my most comfortable PJ’s and curl up in my comfy chair with a blanket or lie in bed under my soft comforter and read or watch a video with hot chocolate if it’s cold or chocolate candies
    * a good massage helps too
