Halloween spookiness
What is Halloween without trick or treating, candy, popcorn and a good scary movie? I’m not much of a splatter gore kind of girl. I prefer campy to pretty much all else. But there are a few frightening films that had me not sleeping some nights. Listed below are some favorite recs, TV series’ and movies, both the campy and freaky:
Supernatural the TV series - yummy protagonists, great chemistry and suspense that has me crawling up the walls…
Buffy - loved, LOVED the series. And, of course, Angel too. No, there was no reason I picked the Season Five picture. No reason, I tell you!

Bram Stoker’s Dracula - one of my faves
The Shining - what can you say, it’s creepy terrific

The Lost Boys - a nice blast to the past

Shaun of the Dead - a more recent addition, campy and hilarious

Army of Darkness - good old campy fun

The Frighteners - fits my campy fun index for much of the movie, except for the parts with the forehead numbers and the reaching through and grabbing out — ARGH! *runs away screaming from the memories* For some reason this movie scared the pants off me. *shakes fist at Peter Jackson*

Silence of the Lambs - fava bean creepy goodness

Seven - I actually never want to see this movie again. I walked home from it looking over my shoulder every five seconds. So I suppose I must list it.

Alien and Aliens - yeah, I think I’ll stay away from these too…

Jaws - perhaps not on the usual Halloween list, but as a swimmer, this is the ultimate horror film *shudders*

What are your faves or recommendations for Halloween?

I love Silence of the Lambs and Alien and Aliens. I also like The Ring and the original Halloween movie. Any movie about something that could actually happen (like a serial killer, etc.) really creeps me out, but I love it!
I’m a huge Alfred Hitchcock fan also, so I like those type of mystery/suspense movies. My faves are Rear Window, Dial M for Murder, Vertigo, Spellbound, Notorious…

Silence, always one of my favorite. I actually own that one and Seven (which I thought was darkly amusing at times and so chilling- really brilliant). Oh and JAWS, one of my top 10 movies. Great list, Anne.
October 31st, 2006 at 11:42 amAlas, I try to avoid scary movies. . . I don’t like scary movies. . . but I am trying to get myself to watch Robert Englund’s version of Phantom of the Opera right now. . . he’s a Phantom who’s mask is sewed on his face from skin he got off his victims or something. Sigh. . . why do I insist on seeing all the versions of Phantom? I mean, didn’t I learn after the one who was raised by telepathic rats???

Great choices…I haven’t seen The Frighteners.
I love the whole Silence of the Lambs movie series. Manhunter is one of my faves (later remade and called Red Dragon) and Hannibal is okay.
