Now THIS is a nest!
I was so impressed with all of you who tidied up your “nests” so their pictures looked great on the blog. So, I tided mine , too. Yes, this is AFTER I tidied it! I can’t help myself, I’m a disorganized chick. But some say a chaotic desk is a sign of genius, so I’ll go with that.

But you can see I have plenty of stuff to keep me distracted. Speaking of distracted, have you noticed how easy it is to let ourselves get distracted by so many different things that are time eaters? For instance, I just moved my blog from Blogger to Wordpress. The place I had it was okay, but then I found out about the neat little bells and whistles I can play with at the other place, so there went my Saturday night. (but it looks so cool, to me anyway. http://desperatewriter.wordpress.com)
Then I entered the Avon FanLit contest, and I find myself checking it obsessively, and even though I said I wouldn’t do it, I have even lurked and posted on the forum over there too. And let’s not even talk about how much time it takes to read and rate entries. I don’t know if the contest will turn out to be worth it, but since Avon is my dream house, I had to throw my hat into the ring just for the chance of interaction with publishers.
Then there’s my TBR pile. I am so behind, I’ll never catch up. The latest book I’ve added is DRIVING ME CRAZY by Peggy Webb, which has been nominated for a 2007 Pulitzer. Can you believe it? A Harlequin novel? Not that category novels can’t be damn fine fiction, but how many times do we hear of one being recognized for the excellent fiction it can be? Very cool, I can’t wait to read it.
But I know this, all these things put together are feeding my procrastination in working on my manuscript, and I have a difficult time fighting it. I NEEDED Elizabeth’s kick in the pants last week. And kudos to Essebee for getting words on paper anyway she could.
How do you guys fight procrastination? What distracts you most?

Wow April, I love your desk. The hubby and I are both looking into getting new desks. I want one with drawers and hiding spots lol. I also want a new chair with lots of padding for my sore assets. As I spend most of my day sitting in front of this screen, my bottom end gets sore.
Anyhow, thank you for sharing your nest with us.
And as for Elizabeth’s post, I was amazed at how true it all rang..scary that.
September 26th, 2006 at 1:01 amCongratulations, April! I think you won our “unofficial nest” contest! *G* I wish my nest looked like yours, seriously I do. If it were up to me it would look like yours, but the DH is a neat freak and since I share it with him, gots to keep it “clear and free of clutter”. Doesn’t he know I work better with “organized chaos” all around me??? Huh, huh, huh??? LOL My, I need a bigger desk, come to think of it. April, I just love your nest!
I fight procrastination by letting my friends kick me in the pants (and authors like Elizbo). Sounds passive but really, nothing gets me going faster than a dear friend aksking me, “now Isabel, how much have you written lately?”. *You know who you are! *G*
September 26th, 2006 at 9:25 amForgot to sign into blogger and sign my name. In case you didn’t know that was me up there.

September 26th, 2006 at 9:26 amThanks! Yeah, I’m a mess. But it’s my mess.
September 26th, 2006 at 1:19 pmFINALLY! A REAL writing desk. With stuff all over it. LOL!
Although I will confess that, like the rest of you, if I were posting a picture of my desk on the internet for all to see, I also would have cleaned it up. *g*
Is Desperate Writer = April? Anyways, good luck in the Avon FanLit contest!!
September 26th, 2006 at 1:38 pmI should post a picture of my desk at work and then you’ll really see what a desk of mine looks like!
I dusted and wiped my glass desk before I took my picture for my blog last time. There were kitty paw prints all over the glass, a bag of kettle cooked original unsalted potato chips and a can of cherry coke which I removed beforehand.
Oh and another reason why my needs to be neat and tidy all the time…

April, really I love your nest!

OH! I’m offended. As if I cleaned my desk just for the entire world! Bah!
Seriously, I’d go batsh*t if it weren’t clean. Anyway.
April, I’ve seen you over at FanLit. I love that about it. Feels like such a community, what with Santa and Maggie In Maine and Sarah and a ton of other people from the Avon board hanging out. And man, is the competition tight!
*Lacey proves she hasn’t done such a good job of kicking the habit…*
September 26th, 2006 at 2:17 pmThat’s kind of how my bookcases look, April *lol* My desk has two shelves, and they’re over filled, but I try to keep the desktop clean… sometimes it works… most of the times not *lol*
Hmm, what eats up most of my time? Apart from the obvious one (work) it’s a game that I started playing. I wasn’t planning on starting, in fact I’d been resisting for more than a year, but finally my brother (who plays and it’s online so you can talk to others) managed to bully me into it, and I was stuck after 10 minutes *lol*
I also get stuck watching DVDs. I buy tv-series on DVD since I never seem to catch them when they’re on, but that also means that when a show ends with a cliffhanger there’s a really big temptation to watch the next episode…
Think those are my main problems *lol* I try to stay focused though, but sometimes time just seems to disappear. My current state of sleep depravation might prove that I still manage to get something done the last hour before going to sleep though *lol* Even if it’s not until 1.30am
And your new blog looks awesome, I must say

I’m offended, too. LOL! Like Lacey, my desk is always clean. Seriously. I didn’t clean it for the picture. That’s just the way I work.
And April, great looking desk! You know where everything is and that’s all that matters!

September 26th, 2006 at 3:20 pmWhat’s distracting me the most, but in a good way right now is The Vampire Who Loved Me!!!lol.
One of these days I’ll get a picture taken of my nest.
In the meanwhile, I just keep trudging along!

September 26th, 2006 at 3:58 pmIsabel, you really shouldn’t take a bath at your desk. I mean really! Haha, Jaggers is just too cute and looks exactly like my Star..only 5 pounds fluffier haha.
April, if you notice, my desk isn’t exactly, umm clean. And I didn’t show ya’ll the below area haha. That right there is a scary thought.
As for Fanlit, I entered 3 submissions this round and guess they are doing so-so. But I’ve been busy all over the place. Writing, reading, graphics, web pages…yeah you know what I do lol.
September 26th, 2006 at 9:23 pmThanks everyone for your comments. This was a fun blog today, not like my usual boring ones!
I’m trying to do better.
Haven– I guess we find out tomorrow how we do.
I hope I stick it out! Your entries were good!
September 27th, 2006 at 2:15 amThank you. Yours were as well. Now we are on the countdown. I’m kinda enjoying this contest, despite the ugly scores and bad comments. There are a few that actually give you advice…like a little contemp, but good chapter..yadda yadda lol.
