That time of the month…
It ain’t PMS, baby. It’s “New Release” time of the month!
I don’t know about you, but on this day (last Tuesday of the month), I get so excited! Just the thrill of getting new books is so exhilarating to me. I went on a hunt yesterday (the day) and found Julia Quinn’s On the Way to the Wedding and Kathryn Smith’s Be Mine Tonight. I had to ask a guy at B&N to get them from the back, and while he probably thought I was crazy, I could care less. I mean, why have a release date if they’re not on the shelves on that day?!?! However, I didn’t find Kimberly Logan’s Sins of Midnight. I’ll probably find that one later at the grocery store. Then I’ll get “the talk” from my husband…”Honey, was this book on your shopping list?” Me-”Well, no, but I can add it now if you want me too.” He doesn’t argue anymore…he knows it’s fruitless. *g* I’ve already warned him that I have seven books on my TBB list for next “New Release” day (July 25), hence the reason I received five B&N gift cards for my birthday.
So, if it’s so very exciting for us (as readers), can you imagine how the authors feel? What they’re thinking? How they’re reacting? Hopefully one day we will be there as authors! How will you celebrate? And which books were you able to find this month? Do tell…
I need to go hunting books this weekend at Borders. I’m reading my last one. Yikes! Of course, I could download a few ebooks to tie me up.
June 28th, 2006 at 1:05 pmWell for me, I always warn the husband of how many books I’ll be buying for the month. Now sometimes it takes me the entire month to track them down but more often than not, I buy them the day the arrive (or right on the first..pay day).
I tend to be a worrier, so I can only guess that when I’m published I’ll be driving around like a mad woman to see if they have my book on the shelves (in the town I live in that is lol). Then I’d worry about how the reviews/emails will be..will the readers love it or hate it…YIKES!
Hi Silma, so glad you could drop by.
June 28th, 2006 at 3:41 pmHi Silma, welcome to RI
My favorite day of the month has to be the last Tuesday of each month. Every single month I get to read a favorite author’s book or discover new ones.
I swear I could here the B&N workers groan when I come in to shop once a week, “here she goes again, she’s going to ask why Julianne McLean’s books are not part of our regular stock, again”.
I literally walk the entire romance section, I can pick the books blind folded
June 28th, 2006 at 7:31 pmLiving abroad in a non-native English speaking country I have to rely on Amazon for my romance fix. To save on postage I usually place a big order once every 2-3 months, so I’m always a bit behind on the new relseases
I’m going to have to get JQ’s new book from Amazon US rather than UK though since I want the US cover. Else it won’t match the ones I have.. hehe

June 29th, 2006 at 8:32 amHaven, I’ll probably do the exact same thing…drive around town just to see if and how many of my books are on the shelf. It would be a dream come true…
Anon, is that you Isabel? I usually pre-order all of my books through B&N.com (as you know), but with OTWTTW, I just couldn’t wait. It’ll be the same next month with LK’s SIS, JP’s FLWL and others. I’ll probably head back to B&N (which is 35 miles away) to get those. Man, I can’t wait until next year when they open a B&N in my town…finally
Emily, I’m so sorry to hear that you have to wait, but I don’t blame you for making big orders. And I would rather have the US cover of OTWTTW as well. It’s really beautiful. Good luck on getting them soon.

Yes, Andrea, that was me “annon” I forgot to sign my name. But you know my “voice”

Well ladies, for me when (and notice I did say WHEN) the day comes that my first book is out on the shelves, I might just “arrange” for me to have a book signing at the Borders I frequent that is about 25 miles away from my home. hehehe. Not that anyone will probably notice, or squeal like a girl at the sight of me, but it’s a start, right? lol.
But in all practicality, I’m sure my heart will be beating hard, and when I finally have the book in my hands, I’ll hold it to my heart, then shed a tear or two while thinking “I did it! I DID IT?!?!?!” Racing through my mind.
It’ll be a good day!
As for new releases, I believe next month there are three that are automatic buys, so dh will just have to deal with that! lol. Yes, the last week of the month rolls around and I can’t wait for the new releases!

June 29th, 2006 at 1:14 pmI’m laughing at myself over here because I just bought JQ’s ENTIRE backlist. Then I promptly lent them to a friend who’s going out of town for the long weekend and needed a few good reads. Ha. Joke’s on me, since JQ will be booksigning at my local mall on Friday.
Well, there will be other signings, right?
