Your Health and Your Writing
Well, I’m not an expert. But lately, I am realizing what an impact our health, mental and physical, has on our writing.
Sometimes, not feeling well sneaks up on you. It’s easy to pass it off as feeling lazy, or unimaginitive. And on my part, a bunch of it is lazy.
Still, I have recently discovered I have an auto-immune disorder that makes my blood “sticky.” I’ve been told to start taking a low-dose aspirin daily, and in the past two weeks, I’ve been feeling better. And I’ve realized that maybe my laziness isn’t just laziness. And I’m looking forward to more energy in time. I’ve been writing more too. Try not to let poor health sneak up on you and steal your quality of life, I’m learning.
And when you’ve not been well, or have a lot of stress in your life, it affects your mental picture too. You have to take care of yourself emotionally. Don’t feel selfish for doing so. Ultimately, You are responsible for You.
After we take care of ourselves, our attention to our dreams will naturally follow.
I think you have a point there. I know when I was really stressed at my job and not enjoying myself at all (lots of trouble in the workplace) I found myself quite unable to write.. or do anything really.
I’m sorry to hear about your disease as well, and hope that you’ll be feeling better soon!

May 23rd, 2006 at 4:16 pmOh I totally agree April!
When someone in my family gets sick, it’s just a domino effect till I get sick. And believe me, when you’re not feeling well, the last thing you wanna do is write!
I have a slight cold right now with a bit of a scratchy throat. NOT the best thing when I have to be to rehersals Thursday night for Beauty and the Beast. lol. Fear not, a little TLC, vitamins…especially C and my throat spray will tye me over till then.

I completely understand what your going through. With an disease that can’t be cured you often have highs and lows. My hardest time to write is when I’m so sick I’m on the verge of being put in the hospital. During that time I typically have so much pain I don’t even care to think of writing.
I do, however, get to write a lot when in the hospital. I mean what else am I to do lol.
BTW April, when dealing with an immune disease you often have a loss of energy and it’s hard to get it back. Thank goodness yours can be controled easily.
May 23rd, 2006 at 11:07 pmApril, I’m so sorry to hear about your disorder, but am happy that you are able to take something to make you feel better.
Glad to hear you’re writing again as well.
Like Michelle, we experience the domino effect in our house as well. But it’s kinda funny when my hubby and kids are sick, I take good care of them. But, who takes care of me when I’m sick? Oh yeah, me. When I’m sick all of the ‘chores’ still need to get done, right? That’s why I try my best not to get sick.
