About April…
What you want to know about April, aspiring author.
Emily: What made you decide to write when you first started? And how long have you been writing seriously?
April: I’ve always loved stories. I used to write stories of dream dates for my friends when I was in school! But I was tempted by my local community college with their creative writing courses taught by a favorite author of mine. Finally, my Mom and Dad convinced me to jump right in! I’ve been writing seriously for about 12 years.
Emily: Why did you choose to write Romance as opposed to another genre?
April: I’ve always been fascinated by the dynamics of the relationships between men and women. Plus I love happy endings.
Emily: Could you please tell us what sub-genre you’re writing and why you chose that one? Have you considered other sub-genres?
April: I write contemporary, paranormal, and western historical. I’m not really interested in other sub-genres at this time.
Emily: Do you consider yourself influenced/inspired by certain authors? If so, could you name some?
April: I’m inspired by authors that make me buy their stories just because I know that when I see their name on a cover, I know I will be satified with the read. I have so many, but I’ll list a few: Linda Lael Miller, Debbie Macomber, Barbara Dawson Smith, and Geralyn Dawson.
Emily: What’s your writing schedule like? Do you find it hard or easy to find the time to write?
April: The hardest thing I face with a writing schedule is discipline. I have a lot of time to write, but get too distracted by other things!
Emily: When you write, do you have any certain rituals? (Like a special blanket over your legs, or you *have* to have music on etc.)
April: I usually like to have a Diet Coke by my side, and good, instrumental music playing. I can’t be too hot or too cold (call me Goldilocks:) ) or else I can’t focus. Weird, but true.
Emily: What is your current WIP about? (in brief, and feel free to share some info on the hero and heroine ?)
April: My current WIP is a contemporary secret baby story with a twist. My heroine, Maddie, gave her baby up for adoption without telling her husband, Quinn that she was even pregnant, after their marriage failed. A few years later, after becoming guardian of her friend Grace’s child, Maddie is unexpectedly reuinited with her ex, Quinn. Quinn believes Maddie deceived him by not telling him they had a child, but Maddie swears it isn’t true and tells him what she believes to be the truth about the child she has become guardian to. When Quinn pushes for DNA proof, Maddie is shocked to discover the child she believed all these years to be Grace’s is actually hers. Now, Maddie has to confess to Quinn what she did all those years ago, but will he forgive her not only for not telling of the pregnancy, but for giving their child away?
Emily: When you get published, do you have a ‘dream’ publishing house?
April: One that pays well.
Emily: How do you keep track of all the ideas that you’re sure to be getting at all times? Do you write them down for future use or are you someone who can work on multiple projects?
April: If I had better discipline, I could work on multiple projects. As it is, I write the ideas down in a notebook for later.
Emily: What’s your favourite ice cream flavour?
April: Rocky Road.

Here’s a quick question though…did you have anyone in mind when creating your h/h? I know many of us use photos or what not how about you?
And that is just too cute and soo true..about which is your dream publishing house.
Hope all is well.
April 25th, 2006 at 8:09 pmWell April,
Best of luck to you, and hope you don’t feel too much like a fish out of water writing a Contemp, when I believe the rest of us are writing historicals.
Glad to get to know you a bit better.

Thanks, y’all.

Just them!

April, I think your WIP sounds very interesting. I’m curious about what you write for paranormal as well? Is it contemp paranormal then? And have you already written some?
And.. since I’m not American. Would someone mind telling me what kind of flavour Rocky Road is? I’ve heard it before, but I have no idea what flavour it relly is!
