I’m Late, I’m Late
For a very important date: My blog date. It’s a sad day when the person in charge of making the calender forgets to post on her day. BTW I have bunnies on the brain, if you want to know why just read my personal blog.
Anyhow, now to my movie pick. I should have known I couldn’t limit myself to just one. So I decided to post on the two movies I’ve watched recently. Just Like Heaven and The Wedding Date, both wonderful movies.
I chose these because, well, their romance qualities but they both have little twists on the traditional romance stories.
Just Like Heaven, has a guy falling for a dead woman (or at least thats what they want you to think). How can you get past that? Talk about putting a twist to a love story and trust me it’s well worth watching to find out how they do get past death.
In The Wedding Date is another that doesn’t follow the typical guy meets girl, guy falls for girl, both live happy ever after. Yes it does do all that but it has the twist of the guys profession. Think Pretty Woman but backwards.
I know you might be wondering what in the world I’m talking about but in writing romance you really are limited to the “type” of stories. Basically review all your childhood favorites. Cinderella is one of the most popular.
The main thing when writing is to take one of these basic plots and make it your own. Use your voice and create something that the publishing houses would want to buy but also something you can enjoy as well. So what can we do as authors to make our story one of a kind without our story becoming old, plain and down right boring. Once you find this golden key hold onto it.
Best of luck on finding your voice.
What are some of your favorite plot twists?
I loved The Princess Bride. Not only for the great dialog and characters, because it did have a twist. Who would have ever thought the Great Pirate Roberst was actually Westley? lol.
I grin just thinking about this movie!!!

March 30th, 2006 at 9:28 amHave you ever read the book, ‘The Princess Bride’? It’s a bit different from the movie, but it’s so hilarious. Very different from most books
I liked the movie too though. My favourite thing in both movie and book are the ROUSs (Rodents of Unusual Size).
For plots.. Hmm, I guess I like things with a twist in general, since it’s often too easy to figure out what’s going to happen. (In some movies I don’t mind this, they’re still good, but now and then it’s nice to be surprised). Like.. The Others, with Nicole Kidman. I hadn’t gotten that one all figured out, and that makes me remember it.
Otherwise I guess I like anything with a bit of romance *lol*

March 30th, 2006 at 12:32 pmOh I really enjoyed “The Others”. Made by the same guys that made “Sixth Sense”, both great movies.
My husband didn’t enjoy “The Others” but oh man I sure did.
The Princess Bride is also a great movie. Now that movie my husband does like. I’ll have to read the book, it sounds good as well.
I know one thing that is becoming a huge trend in romance movies, No Happy Ever Afters. I’m thinking what is up with that. Two that come to mind, The Little Black Book and Prime. My husband heard me whine about these two for hours about their endings.
March 30th, 2006 at 2:04 pmI just watched JUST LIKE HEAVEN. I LOVED it for so many reasons. Plot, characterization, a good balance of humor and seriousness, as well as a love story.
I liked THE WEDDING DATE for much of the same reasons. And I love Debra Messing. Dermott Mulroney was HOT in this one, that helps!
