Missing In Action
It seems some of the “Inclined” have come up missing…Ohhh ladies where can you be? I just hope they survived the holidays.
Perhaps they are so busy working on their books they have lost all track of time and will be published soon…sounds good doesn’t it?
So the topic right now is Holidays, its on everyone’s mind. So, I’m thinking what about writing holidays in books. Say you want your hero to give the most wonderful gift but aren’t sure how or when to do it.
Well, as with current days holidays always make a great time for special gifts. Even a birthday would make a great time. But the best of all (the one most readers love to connect with) are the basic holidays. Just be sure your time era actually made a bit TA-do about them.
Did they actually put up a Christmas Tree? The best thing is to find out (with research) what that time era did and go with it.
If they twisted ribbons around a pole on Mid-summer’s Eve then you might want to get that pole in the ground and have some merry dancers get busy.
Another thing to think on is the weather…would it truly snow in the desert? Nahh I’m thinking not.
Well, I hope I have your minds wondering but as always my best recommendation is research your time era. After all you don’t want your H/H to be frolicking in the snow when it should be blistering rain.
Have a safe and wonderful New Year.
I couldn’t agree more on the research topic, Haven. You’ve reminded me about how much research I must do about the Regency era. The internet is a good place to start I believe. In my favorites I have about fifteen different web links with info on the Regency era. Let’s not forget the library, I’m planning to make an appointment with the librarian at SF main branch and hopefully have access to some of their “reference/library use only” books on said era.
I haven’t thought of including holidays in my book yet. I need to read up on holidays back in early 1800’s, maybe I’ll get other ideas for my WIP as dig for info. Thank you for mentioning this!
Happy New Year 2006!

Sorry, Haven. I’ve been doing the holiday thing with family! Lots of stuff here, even after Christmas!
December 30th, 2005 at 12:31 amWell, I have actually done my research, in the upcoming scenes, it will be Christmas time…Medieval style! I have planned out the feast, and when the hero gives the heroine a special gift, etc.
Yes, you need to know what you’re talking about, but I don’t ovely stress over the research. Get through the first draft, then go back and edit, check the dates, facts, etc. That’s what I do anyways!
December 30th, 2005 at 2:13 amIt’s way too easy to get lost in research!
December 30th, 2005 at 5:26 pmYes, research can be overwhelming! I have a lot or work to do…
